About Us ( as well as how to contact us) Services we offer Our Units: Clothing
|
The Army of the Southwest is a group of reenactors dedicated to educating people of all ages about the Civil War. Our 40 members come from throughout southwest Iowa . The unit consists of Confederate and Union infantry, artillery, and cavalry. In addition we have a strong group of period civilians. Recently the group has held weekend events at Elkhorn , Ogden , New Virginia , Huxley , Madrid , and Boone. We welcome new members with an interest in the Civil War period. Many of our members are family units. Elk Horn photo results here. Winterset photos here. A good time was had by all at New Virginia on a beautiful Sunday in July. The ladies had a fine fashion show, resisted capture by the rebs, the union infantry boys fought gallantly but went down in a hail of rebel lead on the final charge. The rebs, feeling they could accomplish anything on the battlefield, charged the cannon. Thus, the Union 3rd Lt. Artillery carried the day! Other participants included Doc, 7th Cav mounted and dismounted, flag boys, drummer gal, and civilians. And, lets not forget the wonderful pancake breakfast served by the townsfolk. Reminder: November 8 meeting (Saturday). Check your haversack for details.
